Did you know that in America we consume around 400 million cups of coffee per day? That’s around 4.2kg per person per year! Many of us couldn’t imagine our morning without that cup of morning joe, so we’ve decided to celebrate coffee day by sharing some of our favorite latte recipes for you to try.
1. Peppermint mocha
This one is perfect for giving you that Christmassy, seasonal feel. This coffee is tasty and at the same time refreshing: think hot chocolate meets coffee!
To make it, you’ll need:
- ¾ cup whole milk
- ½ teaspoon mint syrup or mint extract
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla syrup
- ½-1 tablespoon cocoa powder (up to you!)
- Coffee of your choice!
- 2-3 teaspoons of sugar
Heat the milk, cocoa and sugar in a saucepan. Wait until the sugar is dissolved. Mix in a ¾ cup of your favorite coffee, the vanilla and the mint (make sure to let your candy cane melt). Serve in a large mug.
2. Milk n’ milk (leche y leche)
This Spanish recipe involves two kinds of milk and is perfect for those days when you want a softer, smoother coffee. It’s easy to make and requires only coffee, condensed milk and normal milk!
Add your condensed milk to your mug, around ¼ full. Pour in your coffee slowly, over an upside down spoon. The coffee should sit over the milk. Then heat up your normal milk and stir it until it foams. Place the foam on top of your coffee with a spoon. Finally, gently pour in the rest of the hot milk. You should have a layered, sweet and tasty coffee!
3. Coffee smoothie
This coffee is perfect for if you want to try something different and healthy for breakfast! With fruit, oats and cocoa powder this is a healthy spin-off that gets you going in the morning whilst still giving you your caffeine kick.
You will need:
- 1 banana
- Your milk of choice!
- 1/3 cup oats
- ½ tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- Your favorite coffee brand (¾ cup of cold, freshly brewed coffee.)
Freeze your banana the night before making your smoothie. Add all of your ingredients to the blender and wait for 1-2 minutes. You should have a nice, smooth texture in your smoothie. If it’s too thick, add in some more milk and blend again. Add oats or extra banana to make it thicker.
4. Pumpkin Spiced Latte
It’s safe to say that this latte has made headlines since becoming famous last year. It has a lovely spiced fragrance and tastes much better homemade than put together at a coffee store. What does it taste like? Think warm winter memories, lovely nutmeg with pumpkin sweetness and, of course, all blended in with the rich flavor of coffee. This coffee is a treat for the senses.
You will need:
- 3 cups of whole milk (heated).
- 3 sprinkles of pumpkin spice.
- 4 teaspoons of sugar.
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract (or a dash of vanilla syrup).
- Your normal coffee of choice!
Mix up the milk, sugar, pumpkin and vanilla either in a blender or with a whisk or milk frother. Make it nice and frothy! Pour the mixture into your coffee mug until ⅔ full. Then pour your coffee in.
5. White chocolate mocha
This one is a real treat and easy to make at home. A spin-off of the classic mocha, white chocolate adds a rich creaminess to your coffee.
First you need to make your white chocolate sauce: add milk and white chocolate to a pot and stir until it forms a nice, smooth sauce. Pour out your favorite coffee into a mug, and add the sauce on top!
